The Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmuminu Kabir, has expressed intention to terminate AGILE program, a World Bank-supported initiative to improve the secondary education of adolescent girls in Nigeria, from his state.

Alhaji Kabir said that the program is incompatible with the Islamic and cultural values of the region and that it is undermining the authority of the parents and the community.

The Emir made this statement over the weekend at his palace, when he appointed some new officials.

He said that the AGILE program must be removed from Katsina State and that he would not allow any interference with the existing educational system.

It could be recalled that a Civil Society Organisation (CSO), Kungiyar Matasan Kano had appealed to Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf to immediately set up an investigative committee to check and unravel some alleged hidden agenda in the World Bank initiative, AGILE Project ongoing in some schools in the state with the intent of correcting the anomaly.
